A Park Visitor's Guide to Disney’s FASTPASS!
We recently rented strollers in Anaheim to a traveling family of four, who were not only thrilled to get free delivery to their Disneyland resort hotel, but chatting with our co-founder about his years of spending time at the Happiest Place on Earth. What they really found helpful? Learning more about Disney’s FASTPASS!
Disney's FASTPASS is a FREE service that allows you to make a reservation and enjoy specific Disneyland Resort attractions with far less wait.
Like driving in the car pool lane on the I-5 in Anaheim, it can mean the difference between a 30 minute wait and a 2-4 hour one. (Not kidding, there are lines that long. And not kidding about the traffic either!) FASTPASS allows you to skip the lines for some of your favorite attractions in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.
With FASTPASS - like with our baby gear rentals- your family will spend less time waiting in line and more time making memories! A number of Disneyland Resort attractions (listed below) offer FASTPASS, which allows you to skip the regular line or reserve a spot at a show.
To use the FASTPASS service, look for the FASTPASS machines and check the FASTPASS return time. This will be the time you must return. If the time works, insert your park admission ticket and receive your FASTPASS ticket showing your return time. You’re free to grab a bite or enjoy other attractions until your return time. So much easier!
For Disney veterans especially, note that since 2017, instead of using the paper ticket from those machines as their admission into the FASTPASS return lines, Disneyland visitors now must scan their park ticket. The FASTPASS machines still dispense paper tickets, printed with your return time, but now they are intended simply as reminders and souvenirs rather than valid re-admission to the FASTPASS line. The actual FASTPASS is digitally stored on your park ticket or annual pass, so you’ll scan your ticket or pass at the ride or attraction at the appointed return time.
At your return time, visit the attraction’s FASTPASS return entrance with your park admission ticket for scanning. (It’s usually next to the regular line.) The FASTPASS return time is strictly enforced. So be sure to return within the designated return time in order to enter the FASTPASS queue. And remember, they’re only are valid on the day they are issued. So don’t miss out!
All members of your party must have a FASTPASS to use the FASTPASS return entrance, but it is not necessary for your entire party to enter the FASTPASS distribution line. That said, it saves more time if one person in your group enters the queue and receives passes for your whole party. Note your designated "FASTPASS runner" needs to have all of your group's admission tickets to obtain return time tickets. And all guests’ park tickets must have been used to enter the park that day.
You can make Disney FASTPASS selections right from your phone using the Disneyland app. When it’s time to enjoy the attraction or entertainment, head to the FASTPASS entrance and hold your mobile device up to the scanner so it can read your Disney FASTPASS redemption code.
If you have a baby, toddler or preschooler under 3 years old, you do not need a FASTPASS for your child, assuming it’s an age-appropriate attraction. Children under 3 do not have a ticket to put into the machine.
Helpful Disneyland FASTPASS Tips and Tricks:
FASTPASS distribution can run out and frequently does during peak times for the most popular attractions. FASTPASS distribution is available during early entry, but the availability can vary.
Some rides distribute FASTPASSes more quickly than others. According to our mice on the ground, Space Mountain at Disneyland and Radiator Springs Racers and Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure often run out of FASTPASSes early in the day.
A valid theme park admission ticket or Annual Passport used to enter the park is required to make FASTPASS selections.
You cannot obtain another FASTPASS until the start of the return time for your current FASTPASS or two hours since you obtained the FASTPASS have passed.
Link your ticket to the Disneyland app to manage your FASTPASS to cancel, scan at the FASTPASS return from your phone. You can change your mind and cancel.
Some FASTPASS distribution kiosks are located in a different location than the actual attraction.
